Question: I have shingles, for about 5 days now. Also having consistent stomach gramps and nausea. have been taking a nausea medication, helps some. have a lot of trouble sleeping, because of the constant churning/cramping of my stomach. Emergency doctor thinks its a stomach virus, I'm not so sure been 3 plus days. my blood work was all good as far as my other organs, Can shingles affect the stomach nerves??

Brief Answer:
Shingles can co exist with stomach virus

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for query here.
if you have shingles that means your body is under huge stress. The immunity that exists is not able to fight the invading germs. It gives up. that's when opportunistic infection flare up.
The shingles virus do not affect the stomach nerves but indirectly make it a way for stomach virus. I suggest to take medication as advised by ER physician. It is all symptom based treatment. It will take a week time to recover. Take easily digestible food till then more of liquids and semi solids.
