Suggest Treatment For Persistent Rash On The Thighs

default
Posted on Wed, 1 Apr 2015
Question: Hello! I have been on here recently for rash on the back of my right thigh that wont go away. Over the last week i have also been experiencing a decent pain in my joints as well as pain in the muscles of my legs and arms. I went back to the dermatologist today who ordered a lot of bloodwork to be done on me including for lupus, sjordens and a cbc among other things. Today i am also having a weird pain/soreish spot in a certain spot on top of my head. I was sick over the weekbut my whole family was as well with throwing with fevers, etc. We are ok now...i noticed the rash after hot yoga and jogging on a treadmill but it wont go away despite prescription cream. I am 27 and extremely worried that this could be something life threatening als? I have aches and pain in my joints, fingers, legs and toes pretty badly and aches in my muscles. Additionally, i have a weird pressure/tingly spot on the top of my head that im a bit worried about and my right eye is sore in the corner for a couple days now as if something is in my eye? Should i be worried about something serious in terms of my head or ALS?I would love to hear your opinion? I have attached a picture of the rash...thank you so much for your help!

1.Please send a image of the lesion.
2. Are you having itching in the lesion?

No no itchyness at all. It burns occassionally but otherwise i dont feel it....sometimes burns when outside in the cold. My cbc labs came back normal so no leukemia or anything. Im still worried about having a possible brain tumor or als due to my muscle aches and joint pain....i get pains in my wrists, fingers, toes, bottoms of my feet..pain iny shoulders, fore arms, thighs etc. I will have to wait until next week to hear about my lupus labs. Im worried about possible brain tumor bc i have a creepy crawley pressure pain that comes and goes in one spot and then a pain from time to time in one temple/one area over my eye brow on the left side. I have no vision problems but the outer corner of my left eye has been bothering me for a couple days now...i havent been wearing make up....there is nothing there such as a stye but it is sore to the touch and when i blink. My other eye occassionally has a shooting pain but idk if thats just me beinf anxious. I have attaches an image. Thanks!

Brief Answer:
This looks like contact dermatitis

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I have studied your image and I do not think that it is lupus. It looks more likely a conact dermatitis. It is a lesion most commonly due to sweating, allergy to any cloths or medicines. It will going to improve soon. Just make sure that there should not be nay misture, avoid tight synthetic garments.
For eye problem I would suggest you to see a eye specialist. It looks to me conjuctivitis. It may need anti bacterial eye drops.
Your joint pain can be due to post fever myalgia. I do not think you have any symptoms suggestive of brain tumour. So do not be worried about brain tumour or leukemia or ALS. Your headache with tempral region pain can be migraine. It typically causes pain at eye brows. I would recommend you to see a neurologist.
I hope this answer will be helpful to you.Let me know if there is any other followup questions.

Ive had the rash for 2 weeks. I have cream given to me by a dermatologist but that really hasnt helped a whole lot. I was recently put on medrol yesterday but not seeing a huge difference yet. I am having my eye checked out...my head hurts on the on side intermittently so i am worried there is something going on that is causing all the joint and muscle aches ive been having...sometimes it feels as if my muscles get stiff but they arent to the touch. Glad you dont think its ALS.

Brief Answer:
Your headache is most likely migraine

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Medrol needs some time to show effects. I think you will feel better in three days.
Your headache is most likely a migraine and I would recommend you to see a Neurologist for it. Most common drugs for them is Brufen or Nimesulide. If your headache remains more than five to six times in month than you need prophylaxis also. Most common prophylactic drug used is Ciplar.
It is good that you have shown your eye to specialist.
Your joint pain my be due to migraine or it can be post fever weakness. But be assure you do not have serious health issues.
I hope this answer will be helpful for you. Let me know if there is any other followup questions.

The head pain did not really start until yesterday. It is intermittent but when i feel the pain it is a twinge in fhe back of my head, on my left temple or over my left eye brow. As i said im worried about other things such as a tumor or ALS...im just a worrier. In addition to joint pain i also have aches/painful twinges in my muscles...arms...upper and fore, upper thighs, calf muscles...this is why i am worried about ALS or a brain tumor bc of the cramps, pain and soreness. Ive never heard of post fever weakness or joint pain bc of a virus. As we speak i am sitting still and can feel the muscles in the baxk of my thigh tensing up and in my upper arms which is why i am worried about ALS. So anyway, im just generally worried...headache is intermittent and comes in a few different spots...i even had pain in my neck, like an aching which worried me. Anyway, they are testing for lupus due to joint pain and rash but theres also muscle cramping/soreness present that comes and go so im just generally worried this is something major.

Brief Answer:
It is not ALS

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
ALS never causes muscle soreness or any joint pain. It is not the disease of sensations. It causes muscle weakness and paralysis. So I can assure you that your symptoms are not near ALS.
Brain tumour causes vomiting, episodes of unconsciousness and paralysis but never joint pain. So you do not have tumour in brain either.
I would suggest you to wait for lupus report, but for me that is also less likely.
Post viral fever myalgia is not uncommon. At present this is most likely cause in your case.
Being worry about any disease is not a solution. It can cause decrease immunity. I will advise you to be confident. Let me know if there is any other followup questions.
thanks

I should explain a coupl things...it is not just joint pain but shooting pain that happens in my fingers, bottoms of feet, toes etc, remains disapears and then occurs elsehwere. Assitionally, i get pain in my muscles espexially my thights, calves, upper arms ans fore arms that feels like my muscles or that area is cramping up, is painful and then goes away. This is why i was worried about ALS. In terms of my head, the pain is usually in one or two spots on my left side and sometimes in the middle of my head...offen susdenabsn feels like throbbjng, pressure and then stops after awhile. I should also point out fhat my right eye has been sore ro blink and sore ro touch in the outer corner...eye doctor didnt find anything. So anyway, these are the reasons i was stilll concerned over possibly brain, spine tumor or ALS. Muscles feel crampy and shooting pain kind of charley horse ish...and pain radiates into areas and stays and then goes away. But anyway, basixally its a mix of shooting pains through certain areas including fingers, toes and muscles including sudden spasm/stiffening...this is why i am worries about somethinf bad. Head pain can come on suddenly and a flash of pain can come in one spot and then go away or remain....in area of left temple and over my eye brow sometimes sudden and shocking can make my face hurt a little but anyway head pain can be bad. My husband and i still have no real appetite from bejng sick. As we speak the area ofone of my thigh bones is aching and then i can feel pain in a painful tensinf up of my other thigh. I had the acheyness/cramping/shooting pain prior to being sick just not as bad. Ive never heard if post viral myalgia...how long would that last? I am on medrol that an urgent care has given me but it hasnt cured anything. Example: shooting/crampy pain in right food in ankle/feet... Thank you!

Brief Answer:
Shooting pain can be due to low vitamin B 12

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I have explained you that ALS never causes any pain. As far as post viral myalgia is concerned it can last up to few months. You just need supportive treatment for it like Brufen tablet whenever pain is unbearable or hot water fomentation.
As you are saying that some time you are having shooting pain also, which is mostly seen in neuropathy like vitamin B 12 deficiency or Calcium deficiency.I would suggest you to take tablet Methylcobal one daily. It will help in shooting pain.
I hope this answer will be helpful for you. Let me know if there is any other followup questions.

Thank you for your help! In addition to the muscle cramps in my thighs and arms, etc. I am concerned about my left eye...there is nothing there as seen by eye doctor but it feels bruised in the outer corner and hurts to blink. No swelling or anything. Do you think this could be related to all of that? I get aches in the bottoms of my feet and fingers among other places. Im glad you dont think its ALS. Post virus myalgia could be it but i was starting to have the pain between my toes before getting sick. Do you think the eye could be related to all of this? That started a few days ago? Im glad you definitely dont think this is anything serious. Unfortunately i still have that rash...again, just hoping this is nothing horrible. I am using eye drops for eye but it feels the same.

Brief Answer:
If eye specialist says ok then be assured

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Your eye problem can be related to migraine. But if your doctor says that every thing is fine in eye than there is no need to be worried about this. You should continue with anti biotic drop though.( if your doctor has no problem with this.)
As you are taking Medrol regularly so this skin rash will improve. It can take some time as I mentioned earlier. Avoid tight clothing and sweating.
Your joint pain if stays or increases than you can take opinion of Rheumatologist. He will ask you to get ESR, CRP and Ra factor. Than accordingly along with painkiller he may prescribe you HCQ or SAAZ. These are good medicines in post viral myalgia.
Let me know if there is any other followup questions.

Would it be related to a migraine when there is no presence of headache at all? I get random head twinnges but no set headache. Ive had sore eye for a few days now but yes eye doctor saw no problems in the eye. As i said before they are doing blood work to check for lupus and autoimmune diseases im not sure it that covers RA or other things but there were a whole bunch of tests. As we speak i am having pains in my toes and fingers that i am worried are related to something bad such as a spine/brain tumor but i will try not to worry. You really dont think its anything serious? Rash does not look any better despite taking medrol dose pack. I get pains in my fingers and toes and intermittent pain/soreness in the muscles of my arms and legs, sometimes up near my thighs. Im only worried bc ive never experienced anything like this! Thanks again for all of your help! Why would post viral myalgia occur?
doctor
Answered by Dr. Dr. Naveen Kumar Sharma (10 hours later)
Brief Answer:
We should wait for blood reports

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Post fever myalgia is due to immunity reaction. Body makes antibodies against virus and that get deposited in joints. It will improve slowly.
For eye soreness , gentle warm water fomentation will also helps.
We should wait for blood investigations so that we can draw final conclusion. I do not think that it is lupus though.
If medrol tablet is not working than topical cream can be used. It will show faster result.
for muscle soreness, at present you can use hot water fomentation, volitran local application and piroxicam tablet after discussing with your doctor.
Let me know if there is any other followup questions.

Thanks for your help! I am worried because my eye continues to be sore...it hurts to blink, almost as if the muscles around it are sore. My legs, arm muscles are crampy and throb intermittently and my fingers and toes ache. Im more worried because it is occurring more often now on the left side. As i said before, i am worried it is some kind of brain tumor or odd disease. I am putting drops given to me by the doctor and it isnt helping. I have also tried putting cool tea bags on my eye and even a warm compress. I am worried there is something going on neurologically. Ive never had such horrible symptoms. I understand that i am stressed out about it but the symptoms are definitely there. If you dont think it is lupus, what would be your best guess? My eye hurting is definitey a part of it as its been 4 days now and its not just my joints fhst ache its spasms/cramps that come and go in my muscles that make them fee sore intermittently. Thanks again for all your help. Im pretty worried. I knew someone with similar symptoms who had brain cancer which is probably why i am so worried. I have been putting cream on the rash but its still there.

Hello there! Bloodwork came back and all was normal, no lupus or anything. I am however still having joint pain in my hands, wrists and feet and muscle pain/pain in my arms and legs. I am now worried that it is something neurological or something cancer related. I also have pain in my hip bones and back area/tail bone. I dont have any swelling just pain in muscles and bones...im worried something is bone marrow related or a really serious illness since i cant figure this out!

Brief Answer:
You are not having any bone marrow cancer

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
i have studied your case. Your blood investigation is proving us right .I told you that you skin lesion does not look like Lupus.
I can also assure you that you are not having any serious illness or bone marrow cancer. In these condition blood work shows abnormality and it can not be normal. Generalized body ache is not at all related to any major illness.
So I would recommend you to avoid thinking in terms of any major illness. You can get your blood work done every 6 monthly if you are worried bout these possiblities.
I hope this answer will be helpful for you. Let me know if there is any other followup questions.

Post viral myalgia is bad in morning

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Most of the inflmmatory arthritis pain is bad in morning. As day progresses increase in activity causes toxins to wash away and that causes pain relief.
I would recommend you to do hot water fomentation in the morning. Avoid cold temperature. Also take Tablet Brufen one daily.
And once again there is no serious problem in you.

Brief Answer:
Brain tumour rarely present as neck

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I can assure you that it is not brain tumour. As it is rarely present it self as neck pain. If you are too much anxious than you need to get a CT scan of the brain. This will give us confirmation. Night sweat is due to anxiety. So once you are free of that thought of cancer in mind than you can sleep with out anxiety and night sleep.
