Suggest Treatment For Persistent Lower Back Pain

Question: Hello Dr XXXXXXX

I am suffering from lower back pain from past 1 month. The pain is not sharp and shifts from place to place. I don't have any tingling sensation in my legs. I have put on some weight recently and I have very stiff hamstrings. I tried some hamstring stretching exercises and the pain relieved to some extent. Please suggest what to be done.

Hello XXXXXXX Welcome to HealthcareMagic,
I've gone through your query and understand your concern,

It can be due to prolonged sitting hours in front of computers during the job (let me know if you're in a desk job or something else)..tingling is not necessarily seen in everyone..

Always try to sit with your spine straight, and take frequent short breaks (5-10mins) in between and just walk around the premises..

Do not engage in any kind of heavy weight lifting..

Avoid forward/backward bending and any kind of stretching for the time being..

For symptomatic relief, you can take Tab PARACETAMOL 650mg three times daily after food..apply hot fomentation gently over the area twice daily..along with this you can also apply analgesic gel Diclofenac locally (eg.VOLINI GEL), apply gently over the area twice daily and do not massage..

Drink plenty of water (at least 2.5 ltr) throughout the day to remain well hydrated..

If despite following this, symptoms persist or worsen, then I'd suggest a clinical examination of the area by an Orthopedician along with few relevant investigation (X-ray of the Lumbosacral spine, serum Calcium, Vit D3 level, ESR etc.) for further management..
