Suggest Treatment For Persistent Heartburn, Cough And Acid Reflux

default
Posted on Mon, 5 Oct 2015
Question: I have had acid reflux for a long time now. I had bronchitis last December and developed a cough that hasn't gone away. I have heartburn every day and my coughing in worse late at night. Coffee and coke really make the coughing worse. I have tried prevacid and a lot of other over the counter medications but don't seem to help. I don't want to have to continue to deal with this. What do you suggest?

Brief Answer:
Acid reflux can worsen irritation on throat and cough.

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Thank you for asking HCM.

I have gone through your query. Acid reflux can worsen irritation on throat and cough. Proton pump inhibitors like esomepraole (nexium) along with motility enhancers like domperidone will be helpful. If you were my patient then i would suggest t take this both before break fast and combination of antihistamines like levocetirizine and mast cell stabilizers like monteleukast at night.

Avoid carbonated drinks and coffee. Fatty , spicy foods and junks should be avoided also. Take food at least 2 hours before lying down for sleep. Raise the head portion little more with pillows. These measures will be helpful.

Hope this may help you. Let me know if anything not clear.
Thanks.
