Brief Answer:
Consulting a chest physician & self care would help.

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

Seasonal cough over along period suggests allergic origin & fever accompanying the cough with green phlegm suggests infection. So you seem to have allergy that is predominant in winter season. Exposure to such allergen (causing allergy) as winter starts & mismanagement of the problem or low resistance, cause infection adding to the problem.

The organisms causing infection need to be sensitive to the antibiotic given. If they are not, the infection cannot be controlled & goes on increasing to cause symptoms like fever & green phlegm. Conditions like diabetes / general weakness with low resistance, worsens the condition.

In this scenario, you need expert chest physician's advice. He would examine you physically & get you investigated to know the depth & type of the infection as well as allergy and allergens. (Investigations like CBC, Allergy screening test, sputum culture & sensitivity test/ AFB test,X ray chest, Diabetes profile may be undertaken)

After pin pointing the exact organism & allergies you have, he will offer specific treatment to relieve you of the symptoms. (Antibiotic, anti allergic, bronco dilator, steroids, cough syrup, Health tonic & anti diabetic as indicated may be included in the treatment)

Self care:-
- Avoid exposure to allergens (identified / experienced) - may be food article, clothing material, cosmetics used, dust or coolness due to AC exposure.
- Avoid/ be protected from dust/ exposure to cold atmosphere
- Eat light, nourishing diet that suits you (avoiding trouble shooters / allergens in diet).
- Avoid cold food articles, cold water, fruits like banana/ guava, custard apple/ sour fruits, fried or spicy - oily food items.
- Drink warm, clean water
- The cotton / silk cloths mostly suit allergic people. Get tested for fabric allergy if any (woolen or synthetics my cause allergy)
- Have a healthy lifestyle with regular eating habits, bowel movement / exercises - like yoga, Pranayam (respiratory exercises) / avoid excessive physical strain or psychological stress /sufficient & sound sleep. Be positive.
- Continue treatment advised regularly & have reviews by treating doctor as advised.

Increasing immunity-resistance / controlling allergy & adopting ideal lifestyle are means to prevent the recurrence in the coming years.

I hope the answer was both informative & useful to you.

Wishing you fast recovery. Thank you.
