Suggest Treatment For Pelvic Pain

default
Posted on Tue, 17 Oct 2017
Question: Hello, I've had pelvic pain on the left hand side for a month now, and had two ultrasounds that showed nothing. Would a CT or MRI be better at diagnosing this on going pain? And do the benefits outweigh the risks of radiation?

Brief Answer:
Suggested MRI scan with complimentary screening CT if needed

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for writing in to us.

MRI has good tissue contrast and is more accurate at detecting conditions involving muscles, tendons, ligament, disc problems in the lumbar spine and bone edema.

CT scan has a better visualisation for bone structures.

I will suggest to go for MRI lumbar spine, pelvis and hip joints as per your clinical examination and a screening CT scan if needed to rule out any suspected bone conditions detected on MRI scan.

Regards,
