Brief Answer:
Paraspinal muscle spasm and nerve compression at lower spine

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXX,

Thanks for your query.

First of all, the symptoms are less likely suggestive of DVT (Deep Vein Thrombosis). It usually presents with pain, swelling and change in colour of the skin of leg. So, kindly do not get too much concerned about it.

The symptoms as mentioned in your post can be due to:
1. Paraspinal muscle spasm and nerve compression at the lower spinal region (Lumbosacral spine) - the sensation of cramps, sharp pain and waking up of legs can be attributed to this.
2. Inadequate hydration status & electrolyte imbalance of the body.
3. Dietary deficiencies of certain nutrients like Iron, Calcium, Vitamin D, Vitamin B 12, Folic acid, etc. which help in blood formation & nerve conduction.
4. Peripheral neuropathy secondary to systemic illness like Diabetes, Hypertension, etc. Since you had a past history of high blood pressure, the possibility cannot be ruled out in the background of sudden fluctuation of blood pressure or blood sugar levels.

I understand you wish to wait until you get insurance cards. As you wait, you can try analgesic preparation like Ibuprofen along with nervigenic agents (like Vitamin B6, Vitamin B 12, Folic acid) as well as multivitamin & multimineral supplements including iron, calcium & Vitamin D (needs to be added in your diet) and see if you feel better. Maintain adequate hydration & proper nutrition status and avoid stress.

If symptoms still persist or becomes worse, I will recommend you to consult a Neurologist & get a complete Neurological examination done. Certain investigations like complete blood count, serum electrolyte estimation, fresh estimation of blood pressure & blood sugar levels, Doppler study of legs (to rule out DVT) & nerve conduction studies will be helpful to rule out any pathological cause for the symptoms.
X ray and MRI of Lumbosacral spine will be helpful in detecting any nerve compression.

Wishing you a Good Health.
Take care.

Will this cause an ache in either leg in various spots? Seldom eve the same spot? It will favor my right some days and left the other. Upper thigh mostly in either leg. It is so discouraging for someone who has panic atracks and anxiety disorder. I have rather large muscles in my legs. I sit a lot in my office but I do continously go up and down a flight of stairs all day.

Brief Answer:
Neurological etiology

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXX,

Thanks for your follow up query.

Yes it is possible.
The fluctuating nature of the location of the ache is more suggestive of a Neurological etiology.
Kindly consult a Neurologist for a complete Neurological examination and investigation as mentioned in my previous answer.

If you are too much concerned regarding the possibility of DVT, you can undergo blood investigations for the same. But in my opinion, they should all be within normal limits.

There is no need to worry, you will be fine.
Maintain proper hydration & nutrition status and avoid stress.
As the symptoms (with a Neurological cause) may aggravate in the background of stress, anxiety and inadequate nutrition status.

Wishing you a Good Health.
Take care.
