Suggest Treatment For Painful Swollen Lymph Nodes In Groin Area

default
Posted on Mon, 17 Aug 2015
Question: I have a pretty tinder and painfull what appears to be a swollen lymph node about the size of a large grape near my groin. This morning I woke to realize that it seemed to have a head on it. When squeezed(very painfull) a pus like fluid came out. The "node" is still swollen and very tinder. I've had this a few times in the past but Never with any type of fluid coming out. Once befor I took some antibiotics for the situation and the swelling decreased significantly. And I've had a doctor look at it as well and he didn't mention a concern for any stds... please any help is appreciated

Brief Answer:
Take antibiotics and send photo.

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
How many times have you had it earlier?
Is it in the same location again and again?
Are you sexually active and when was your last encounter?
You can send us a picture of the lesion so we can better understand.
You will need a course of antibiotics again for atleast 5 days and daily betadine dressings so that it does not get secondarily infected.
Please do send photo and start antibiotics.
Take care.

About 6 or so times, but im not too sure. They weren't/aren't always this painful if painful at all. maybe getting worse. And no they aren't always in the same spot but 4 occasions 2 and 2 were in the same spots or general area at the least. Yes I'm sexually active with 2 partners only( for about a year), neither of which are having or had problems anything remotely similar to this.
Also the lesion is very small (about the size of the head of a ball point pen) compared to the size of swelling

Brief Answer:
Get examined by a Surgeon and take antibiotics.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for the information.
It is definitely seems like a boil. I would have appreciated a picture.

The hole would be much smaller than the swelling itself. That is the usual presentation. By seeing a photo we would have come to know whether it is an infected sebaceous cyst or a boil or suppurative lymphadenitis.
I suggest you take a course of a antibiotics and get examined by a Surgeon who can tell you the definitive management.
I usually advice my patients Tab Augemntin 625mg thrice a day along with Tab Tinidazole 500mg thrice a day for 5 to 7 days along with dressings and perfect hygiene for the area.

I uploaded a picture of the lesion. Its visible in the picture but may be hard to see as it is fairly small. Swelling is still present but it has subsided some. It's tinderness has decreased dramatically as well... what kind of surgeon do you suggest I see? Is it possible that this could be lymphoma or lymph node abscess?
Should I go to a near by ER since 90% of doctors will make an appointment a week out or even longer away?

Brief Answer:
It is only a boil with a fungal infection rash in surrounding.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
It looks like a boil only and does not seem to be a Lypmphoma or lymph node abscess. There are no lymph nodes in this area where the lesion is.
What I do see however is a base of a fungal rash.
Therefore I suggest that once you complete your antibiotics you should start an anti fungal cream application. I usually advice Clotrimazole or Miconazole ointment for fungal rashes.
But you should start that only once the hole has completely filled up. Ointments should not be applied upon open mucosa. I dont feel you would need to see any Surgeon once I have seen the photo. It should resolve soon.
Two weeks of anti fungal application should resolve it completely.

Thank you so much for your rapid response... so you believe that I may have a fungal rash? My groin is usually relatively dry. and this fungal rash can be the cause of these boils?

Brief Answer:
Yes fungal infection can lead to the boils. They should be fine now.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
You are most welcome.
You could be having a fungal rash which could have become secondarily infected by bacteria leading to this boil. That is a possibility.
Just continue the antibiotics for 5 to 7 days, then wait for the hole to fill up then apply anti fungal cream in that area and thigh creases for two weeks twice a day after washing the area then stop.
Do let me know if any such problem comes again. I feel you should get cured by this.
And as your groin remains dry, just ensure it remains so. Being dry would be better to ward off any fungal infections.
