Suggest Treatment For Painful Side Effects Of Bactrim And Cipro

default
Posted on Wed, 1 Apr 2015
Question: I stopped taking Cipro (first took Thursday for two days) and Bactrim (2 days, last dose 24 hours ago) for a UTI. I've had an allergic reaction to both or side affect, whichever you call it, but my mouth and tongue are severely swollen and have blisters throughout. I can't eat or swallow and am in pain. What can I take for the pain? Advil? Tylenol? I don't know how long ago the last dose should be before I can take certain things. Also, when will these painful side affects go away? I've read horror stories about them taking weeks! Or worse, getting worse even after stopping the medication. Please answer me, so I can take something and try to sleep. Thank you.

Brief Answer:
Citrizine & Tylenol

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

I had gone through your question and understand your concerns that you are having mouth sores.

Based on your clinical details, it occurs to be drug reaction secondary to bacterium or
ciprofloxaxin.

As such, drug reaction can have swelling and sores, which should be managed with antihistamines and steroids. It takes time to resolve, may be 3-10 days.

I suggest you to follow these measures to overcome your oral sores.

1. stop oral antibiotics.

2. start anti allergic medication tab. cetrizine 10mg once daily.

3. Take tab. Tylenol 500 mg twice daily after food.

4. Do not take spicy and oily foods.

5. Take plenty of water.

In case of persistence or increasing swelling ( can cause airway obstruction), need to see an ent surgeon to rule out other causes.

Hope this answers your question, if you have additional questions or follow up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your questions.

Wishing you good health.
