Question: Hello, I broke out with a very painful rash today and it's not going away. The rash areas feel like deep bruises? Please help They are very swollen also. Like I'm retaining water or something??

Shingles is cause by the chicken pox virus living in your body re-emerging with a rash and deep nerve pain. The doctor can give you medication like Valtrex to help reduce the rash duration and help prevent long term pain. They can also give you regular pain medication to help with the pain which can be very acute and strong.
