Suggest Treatment For Painful Bump On Lower Buttocks

default
Posted on Tue, 6 Oct 2015
Question: I have a large, painful bump (about 2.5-3 inches in diameter) on my butt cheek. It almost looks like a pimple. It's raised slightly and very painful and hard to the touch. It is red on the outside edge, skin colored on most of the interior of the bump and has a red center. It has been there for a little over a week and has not gotten better. Do you know what it could be?

Brief Answer:
Large Butt Cheek Bump? Abscess with Boil/Under Investigation

Detailed Answer:
Provisional Impression-Large Butt Cheek Bump? Abscess with Boil/Under Investigation

Hi,Welcome with your query to HCM Virtual Clinic.
Reviewed your query in full details.
My answer to-What it could be?-
By the facts given in your query, this bump on the butt cheek is a Boil progressing to Abscess and as such has hard induration and is painful to touch

Suggested plan of treatment-
As it is there for more than week at this stage, I would suggest a Second Opinion from your ER Surgeon, who would rule out any other cause and would start the treatment under his guidance as follows-
-Cold Compresses to start with/ Hot compresses to hasten ripening
-Complete Blood test-to know the body defence/ Blood Sugar levels status to plan further treatment.
-Tab Anti-inflammatory-Like Ibuprofen- 400 mgm
-Antibiotics like Levofloxacin-500 mg
-Planned Surgical Drainage(Incision and Drainage) as per advise from your Surgeon under antibiotic cover, as the butt cheek bump seems to be quite large.
-Tab-Zincovit to supplement.

Hope this reply would help you to plan your treatment with your Surgeon at the earliest.
