Question: For the past few months I have been having problems with walking and just exercise breathing out of breath my right forearm and hand mainly bothering me but swelling and a little discoloration and left lower leg bothering me..Last night my husband and I went shopping which lately I have not been able to walk across room without being out of breath and any type of activity I swell up in my forearm and hand but now it is painful and tingling and numb and just sweating so bad..I know this sounds weird but my head itches a lot and my kneck hurts..Anyways we are at the store and after about ten to twenty minutes could not walk anymore my hand and arm swelled up and my left leg hurt me so bad I could hardly walk..i sent two pictures we just took and they swelled up like that just from walking to take pictures..Holding my arm straight over my head helps and brings the swelling and redness down..I am sorry to be a bother I am so freaked out over ER..Thank you

Explained

Detailed Answer:
Hello and Welcome

I appreciate your concern

Based on the images you uploaded, there is no significant swelling of the forearms. The right hand does have mild swelling. The shortness of breath episodes combined with the swelling/ edema requires that further investigation be done. If I was your physician, I would advise CBC, ESR, basic metabolic panel, Chest x ray, EKG, echocardiogram as part of your workup to determine the cause of these symptoms. As part of the general assessment pulses, blood pressure measurement and lymph node examination should be required to further guide the diagnosis. Treatment would depend upon the cause. It would be a good idea to go to an ER to see if you require any diuretics immediately incase you are in fluid overload. Also book an appointment with an internal medicine doctor at a latter possible date.

Wishing you best of health

Thanks

Detailed Answer:
Hello again

The sensitive area under the armpit can be a lymph node swelling associated with lymphedema. The area needs to be examined. If there is marked difference in circumference then a Doppler ultrasound of the upper limb can also be advised.

The shortness of breath/ dyspnea with nausea and neck swelling as you mentioned can all be related to fluid overload which needs to be assessed by a doctor to advise treatment.

Thanks
