Suggest Treatment For Pain In Tibia

default
Posted on Tue, 7 Oct 2014
Question: I have been suffering from pain my tibia (right knee). I think it is due to the change in my shoe (I tried new shoes for 3 to 4 days that have longer top line /heel than the normal shoes). I think because of these shoes there is difference in my sitting posture (twisting my ankle about 15 to 20 degrees continuously) .
I also run 3 to 4 times a week. when I run I am not noticing any pain but when i walk noticing some times (not always especially during night).

can you please let me know what should i do to get relief.
thanks in advance.

Brief Answer:
Change in shoe is very likley the problem.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX Thanks for coming to HealthCareMagic. From what you have given me here, I agree with your idea that the change in shoes may be causing your issues.

There's a simple way to fix that.. use your old shoes and see if the pain goes away. That will be proof positive. If you don;t want to do that. Then i suggest you wear the new shoes and go to a good Physical Therapist and get your walking and running gait examined under their professional eye. They will see which part of your movements is causing the trouble.

To control the Pain, the best I can suggest is Over the counter meds like Ibuprofen and Paracetamol. Use them sparingly, but use them to bring down the pain and swelling. Soaking your feet in HOT water with an Epsom Salt helps as well. Try and elevate your feet when you sit back or lie down. That will help as well.

If the pain persists nothing is helping, then we will have to start looking into getting X-rays and MRI's to look at the joint in detail. I don't want to belabor you with all those possibilities until it necessary.

I hope this helps,

Vinay
