Question: Hi, I am 31 years old. I have started to experience a little pain in the area for wisdom tooth on the left lower side. While the tooth has not come out but it is fulled developed inside the gum and has started to hurt. I had experienced similar pain 6 month sback for my right side and the dentist took out both the upper and lower wisdom teeth from the right.

Is it advisable to take both the teeth from my left side? Please advise.

Thanks,
doctor

Detailed Answer:
Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns...

As per your complain in case if the wisdom tooth has perforated through the bone and is only below the soft tissue covering that is gums then any pressure implicated over the soft tissues (gums) like from hard food productd will cause trauma and inflammation leading to pain as it is in direct contact with a hard structure (wisdom tooth) just under it..

The first thing that you have to do is to consult an Oral Surgeon and get evaluated to rule out whether wisdom tooth is impacted (tooth that will not erupt completely by the natural eruption forces) or it will erupt completely..

In case if it is not impacted then incision over the gums overlying the tooth followed by removal of the gums and the process is known as OPERCULECTOMY can be done so that pain is also relieved and tooth is free from obstruction and can erupt naturally..

In case if the tooth is impacted the extraction of both upper and lower left wisdom tooth is the best choice of treatment...

As of now you can take OTC Anti-inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen (Advil or Motrin) for pain relief..
You can apply numbing gel like Oragel over the gums for pain relief..
Do warm saline gargles..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards..
