Suggest Treatment For Pain In The Foot After Getting Stung By A Bee

default
Posted on Thu, 11 Aug 2016
Question: Hi, I got stung by a bee on Friday while out walking around. I had socks on and it stung my ankle through my sock. I'm not sure what kind of bee it was. It didn't really swell or itch right away, it just hurt really bad, but after about 12 hours my whole foot started to swell and itch very badly. Now 2 days later my whole foot is swollen badly and the sting spot and surrounding area is becoming discolored, almost purple and splotchy. My ankle is so swollen you can't see the ankle bone anymore. Is this a normal reaction? I've attached a picture of my other normal ankle as comparison.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for being at healthcaremagic
I am Dr Asmeet Kaur Sawhney, a dermatologist.
I have reviewed the attached photographs and you have developed an inflammatory reaction to bee sting.
You need to take a short course of steroids and antihistaminics to resolve this reaction.
If I was your treating doctor I would recommend you to take tablet prednisolone 20 mg once daily in the morning after breakfast and tablet Levocetrizine 5 mg once daily at bedtime for 5 days.
Along with this apply a steroid antibiotic combination like mometasone and fusidic acid containing cream on the affected area twice daily for 5-7 days and keep your foot elevated.
This will help in resolving your condition.
These are prescription drugs and you need to see the doctor in person to get them.

Dr Asmeet
