default
Posted on Thu, 16 Feb 2017
Question: I get uneasiness in my right let calf muscle when I go to bed. I do not have any uneasiness while I am walking or sitting. It is only when I go to bed for sleep I start getting uneasiness/current kind of sensation which invariably disturbs my sleep. Please help me in curing this problem.

Please read right leg calf muscle instead of right let calf muscle.

Brief Answer:
Seems to be a neuropathy

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for posting the query.

I have read your question and gone through your medical history in detail.

The complaints that you have stated are typical of a neuritic pain.
The uneasiness, current like sensation is felt in the calf region when the nerve in the leg is inflammed.

In your case, this may be due to long standing diabetes.
Even though the diabetes is under control, neuropathy does occur in few cases.
The protective covering of the nerves is lost in neuropathy due to which the typical current like sensation is experienced.

Taking multivitamin tablets with methycobalamin, folic acid and pregabalin will help.

Calcium and vitamin D tablets should be taken in adjunction to the above tablets to speed up the recovery process.

Applying compression bandage, keeping the leg elevated over a pillow will help.

Gentle massage of the painful area with olive/coconut oil will help.

I hope the answer was useful.

Feel free to ask any doubts that you may have.

Thank you.

Best wishes.

Brief Answer:
needs further evaluation

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

If you are already taking meganeuron OD plus and you have been experiencing this problem for 10 years, then i would suggest you to get nerve conduction velocity tests of both the lower limbs done to come to a diagnosis.

There is no point in continuing to take medicines without knowing the diagnosis.

Do let me know once the test reports are ready.

Burning sensation occurs in vitamin deficiency with peripheral neuropathy.

At present, you need not take any other medicines other that the ones that you have been taking.

We will decide further line of treatment once the NCV tests are ready.

Thanks

I am diabetic for the last 2 years only. But this uneasiness in right leg calf muscle is there for more than 10 years. In multivitamins, I am taking the following :-

1. Nutriprime - once a day
2. Meganeuron OD Plus - once a day

Please advise specific names of medicines, if I need to take in addition to the above vitamins.

Also wish to mention the following :-

1. I get burning sensation in both the feet when I go to bet for sleeping.

2. left leg calf muscle has absolutely no issue.

I have got the doppler study done for my right leg. Will it help. If you agree, I will share the report with you. Or, if the NCV test is a different one, then I will get the same done.

Brief Answer:
doppler is different from NCV

Detailed Answer:
Hi Mr XXXXXXX

Doppler study is a different thing. It is done to assess whether the blood circulation (arterial and venous) is proper or not.

Any blockage in these blood vessels can cause pain in calf muscles or legs, but it won't cause current or burning sensation for sure.

NCV is a test done specifically for nerves and is completely different from doppler studies.

I would still like to see your doppler report.
You can share it with me here.I will go through it and let you know how to go about it.

Thanks.

Thank you.
