Hello,
Thanks for the query.
I have read your query and noted your concern regarding your father.
These symptoms of pain in legs and hands is called as diabetic peripheral neuropathy and is caused by long standing diabetes.
Around 60-70% diabetics tend to develop peripheral neuropathy in long term but not all develop pain.
Although tramadol is a good drug to control the pain but there are other better drugs also available. Two specific drugs approved are PREGABLIN and DULOXETINE.
Since these are prescription medicines, you have to talk to your doctor and take prescription from him.
In addition you can give VIT D and VIT B12.
VIT B12 can be given either by injection or even oral tablets.
VIT D can also be given either by injection or orally.
Both these vitamins would greatly help in controlling the neuropathic pains.
Puffiness around eyes can be there because of kidney involvement or congestive heart failure or even by use of anti diabetic drugs.Anaemia can also cause puffiness. get his hemoglobin retested.
Since kidney function tests are normal,I would advise you to get his heart examined by a cardiologist.
I hope it helps however you are most welcome to revert to me for any further query.
Best  of luck
Thanks

Hello,
As I told you earlier, eye puffiness can be due to heart condition or use of anti diabetic drugs or kidneys. Since kidney function tests are normal his kidneys are not the culprits.
Get the heart checked up.
All the medicines for leg pain would cause some sleepiness.
Try giving tramadol in night only. This would reduce his daytime sleeping.
Thanks
