Suggest Treatment For Pain Due To Gall Stones

default
Posted on Fri, 5 Sep 2014
Question: I have gallstone, and I am scheduled for surgery on Monday. My doctor gave me a prescription for 5-300 mg Vicodin but I am currently having an attack and it is not helping much (I have taken 2). I know that acetaminophen can be harmful on your liver and easy to OD on so I am worried about taking more and I can't try ibprophen or other pain killers because they are blood thinners. I am wondering if there is anything else I can do to help with the pain (tried heat pack also not helping). No jaundice.

Brief Answer:
usual dose doesn't cause any harm

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Welcome to HealthcareMagic .

3 to 4 days taking painkiller twice daily doesn't have any major side effects. Avoid acetaminophen. But ibuprofen may be taken. Such small duration of dose doesn't cause blood thinning.

Other stronger pain killers you may take like aceclofenac or buscopan on prescription which I usually prefer. These don't affect your liver in few days as you don't have jaundice . Its always very long term usage which is harmful. If your pain doesn't get controlled then you need to shift to injectable pain killer after consulting your doctor.

Some home remedies you may try with pain killer which help in reducing pain but not 100% proved like
-increase lemon intake like in juice, bottle guard and carrot juice.
-increase fiber intake like oats and green vegetables.
-reduce fat and sugar intake.

Hope I have answered your query . If any further queries are there I would love to help.
