Suggest Treatment For Pain And Swelling In The Foot

Question: My mother is an 86 year old female. Suddenly, without any known injury, she developed swelling on the inside of her right foot. No evidence of a bite or injury. She is having difficulty walking/putting pressure on her foot. It is painful and the area is warm to touch. We have tried epson salt bath and ice packs to no avail.

The pain and swelling in the foot that has appeared suddenly can be due to infection or arthritis. If pain killers and hot compress is not helping then she needs an X-ray and direct examination. Prescription antibiotics and stronger pan killers might be needed. It is best to consult an orthopedician for proper treatment.
