Suggest Treatment For Neuralgic Pain

Question: Yes, please. Last Saturday I worked on the yard. I have Fibromyalgia so I hurt more so after working outside, however, besides the soreness, there's an area on my lower left back that has been different from my usual pains. It feels like a sunburn. I've applied Aspercreme, and have applied ice on it, but this strange pain has not gone away. My skin does not feel hot nor is there a rash, but it feels like a sunburn. I should have provided my cell phone number for texting. It is (505)469-4849. Otherwise, I won't know when an email is sent because I'm not always on-line. Or should I go through the XXXXXXX App Store? Sorry.

Brief Answer: Neuralgia Detailed Answer: Hi, This sounds consistent with neuralgic pain i.e. pain emanating from a nerve. A sensory (dorsal) nerve root in your spine that supplies the skin in back could have been irritated by the activity that you were doing and it is causing the symptoms you are experiencing in this particular area. I would hope that they would improve with time. Neuralgic pain can be helped with anti-inflammatory medication and neuromodulating medication such as gabapentin. I hope this is the information you were looking for.

Thank you for your quick reply Dr. XXXXXXX I'm glad to hear it's just a different kind of pain I'm experiencing. Since I had not felt that burning kind of pain, I wanted to rule out Shingles. Again, thank you. XXXX

Brief Answer: It's my pleasure and info on shingles Detailed Answer: hope your feeling better soon. if you were to develop shingles it would be in the distribution of a nerve and affect a similar sort of area but it would be different in that you would have a rash.
