Suggest Treatment For Neck Stiffness On The Right Side While Sleeping On The Left

default
Posted on Thu, 27 Jan 2022
Question: Hello. For several days I have had neck stiffness on my right side in the morning while sleeping on my left side, although I have not changed my pillow etc. The stiffness/tightness subsides after fifteen minutes. I even wear a thin scarf because I thought it was related to the window air conditioner. I even put a partition between me and the air conditioner. It doesn't matter. It's only on my right side while I sleep on my left. Could it be caused by something else, like tension?? Thank you.

Detailed Answer:
Hi and welcome.

It may be related to air conditioner but also some other causes should be considered :It could be anything from a muscle spasm that causes a tight knot in your neck, to poor sleeping position and a lack of support from your pillow, to the beginning symptoms of osteoarthritis or a tension headache.
You should change bed position, change pillow and shut down air conditioner and see if this is gonna be better. If not, then you should see rheumatologist and do specific lab tests to rule out autoimmune arthritis.

To relieve symptoms you should take a hot shower in the morning. The heat and steam from the water can often help to loosen tight muscles so your neck feels better when starting the day. Stretching your neck in the morning can also help to restore flexibility in the neck.
Best painkillers are diclofenac or ibuprofen combined with benzodiazepines.

Wish you good health.
Regards
