Question: I am a 72 year old male, 6'4" and 210 lbs.I did some fairly heavy work yesterday am and afterward had soup for lunch. I had a very full feeling like nothing had digested. As the afternoon wore on, it all started coming up, almost violently. This continued until 10 pm. I have a very wore out feeling, and my legs are tired. This is not normal. I managed to keep down some cream of wheat today, and have just taken two ibuprofen to help knock down this head ache. Any ideas? Thanx. XXXX

Brief Answer:
Possible heat exhaustion with electrolyte imbalance

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome,

I am thinking this may be a form of heat exhaustion with an electrolyte (certain types of salts in the body) imbalance. Symptoms of this type of heat exhaustion include vomiting, muscle fatigue and cramps, dizziness and headache.

If you are still feeling poorly, please go in to an urgent care clinic or ER where they can do blood tests to check your electrolytes and assess you for dehydration.

If you feel like it's under control, rest is essential, and drinking lots of liquids, including water and oral rehydration fluids that you can get at a drug store.

The nausea should be resolving now, if not, it may be due to a "stomach flu" virus. But given that it happened after heavy exertion, I am thinking it is a form of exhaustion.
