Question: I've been suffering with constipation for months, and been taking stool softeners and sometimes laxatives. The last couple of times I have had bowel movement I have had mucus in my stool or just mucus. My bowel area (lower back) and abdomen now feel extremely achy and I feel slightly nauseas. Tylenol doesn't help at all. My last colonoscopy I did have some pockets. What do you think I should do?

Brief Answer:
It could be due to infection of the gut.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Mucus in stool associated with abdominal pain could be due to infection of the gut. I prescribe Antibiotic like Rifaximine tablet along with a Pre and Probiotic capsule to my patients with similar complaints.
Please attach Colonoscopy report for exact interpretation.
Avoid outside food.Eat high fiber diet, drink plenty of liquids, eat fresh fruits and vegetables. Your stool will be soft and it will be passed easily.
Hope I answered your query. If you have any questions, I will clarify further.
Wish you good health.
Regards
