I have mild chest skin tenderness right side - a doctor here previously suggest myalgia and it resolved with one advil dose. It reoccured today after 15 days, I felt on sharp one second twitch and it is now tender to the touch. Any advise on root case or condition? No other symptoms

Brief Answer:
Will keep possiblity of musculoskeletal origin first.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Welcome to HCM.

I have just received your question in today morning and managed to answer from my busy schedule in the lunch break time.

Sudden right side chest pain or tenderness without any other symptoms is likely to be due to muscular (myalgia or muscle spasm) or musculo-skeletal origin as your doctor suspected earlier.

I will keep this possibility first and will advise you to continue using pain reliever medications like advil (ibuprofen 400 mg) three times daily with muscle relaxant like mebeverine 200 mg for symptomatic relief.

Avoid heavy weight lifting and do hot fomentation frequently in a day.

If pain does not subside even after 2 to 3 days of symptomatic treatment then it should be further evaluated by clinical examination and tests.

So,you should go for
1) routine blood works,
2) EKG to check heart status (although the chances of some heart issue will be less),
3) vitamin B12 and D3 level to rule out neuropathic pain with
4) X-ray chest and ultrasound of chest

You may consult some local physician will know about all the tests.

But as i said earlier,it is likely to be due to musculo-skeletal origin and it generally subsides with symptomatic treatment.

Hope this will help you.If anything else then just let me know.

Regards,

Dr.Sandip Kabra

Thank you Dr Kabra, i have had a full heart check up and all results were good. I took one Advil for the tenderness and again it resolved. Do you have any idea on the cause of the re occurence? I am otherwise healthy excpet for social consumption of alcohol weekly or so. I have started B12 and Vitamin D daily as well. Any adivse would be appreciated

Brief Answer:
Could be muscle strain or bad posture.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for the reply.

It is good that your full heart check up investigations have come normal which I was anticipating.

As I said earlier, this kind of sudden right side chest tenderness without any other symptoms is likely to be due to muscular or musculo-skeletal origin which in turn could be related to muscle strain or wrong posture or lack of stretch breaks during the work.

Improper diet and rest with increasing weight could also be aggravating factors for such a problem.

Low vitamin B12 or D3 are also responsible for such kind of sudden muscular pain.

But from a clinical point view,if it subsides by taking over the counter pain killers then there is nothing to be bothered much since this type muscular pain are quite common for a any person whether his job is sedentary or hectic.

Also, there is no issue if you are a social drinker rather I would say it might be beneficial sometimes in an otherwise healthy individual if he drinks occasionally.

Continue with vitamin B12 and D3 supplements and no need to take more tension regarding muscular pain.

Hope this will help.If still anything unclear feel free to ask,I will be happy to answer that.

Regards,

Dr.Sandip Kabra
