Suggest Treatment For Moderate Scoliosis In Spine

default
Posted on Wed, 18 Mar 2015
Question: Can chiropractic care provide ANY relief for a 71 year old female diagnosed with moderate scoliosis (26 degree curvature) in her lumbar spine? She has had a procedure 'numbing" the nerves on both sides which has provided a great deal of pain relief. A chiroractor is telling her he can provide additional relief.

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Welcome to Healthcare Magic.

I read carefully your query.

Chiropractic is a controversial method of treatment and it might be quite effective in treating pain related to acute spine condition. It seems to be less effective in treating pain in chronic condition of spine like scoliosis.
It has been helpful in a number of patients with scoliosis relieving the pain but there is no verified evidence that chiropractic method of treatment is effective in relieving pain in scoliosis.
I would suggest to consult it with your spine surgeon before undergoing chiropractic, because sometimes it can make the problem worse.

If she want to see if it works for her,I would suggest to look for a qualified professional chiropractor.

Hope it helps.
Let me know if you need further help.

Confirming your advice, consult with her spine surgeon before agreeing to any chiropractic treatments since in some cases, chiropractic treatment could make her condition worse.

Correct.

Brief Answer:
correct.

Detailed Answer:
Hello again.

Yes ,this is my advise.
Considering her age and the degree of her curvature ,her treating doctor can tell you for sure ,if chiropractic is appropriate for her.
I want to repeat that there is no scientific evidence that chiropractic can provide relief in scoliosis patient. Some patients get relief and others don't.
In some patients, chiropractic has made the symptoms worse but still there are no studies to confirm that this was due to chiropractic.

Please feel free to ask if you have any other question.

Take care.
