Suggest Treatment For Mild Pain In The Neck And Just Below The Left Rib Cage

Posted on Mon, 9 Feb 2015
Question: I have been short of breath for a few weeks that I attributed to a recent bout of being overweight. It has been almost like a panic attack a few times. I started watching what I eat and exercising and I feel a little better. Just last week a I had some pain in my neck going up behind my ear and now I have a dull pain below my left rib cage almost like a bruise. Nothing terribly painful just uncomfortable when I turn. Is this something that can wait for a doctor appt i plan to schedule on Monday or do I go to ER?

Brief Answer:
Mild pain killers will help.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
The mild pain in the neck and just below the left rib cage is likely to be due to a musculoskeletal pain. This is not likely to be related to a serious issue. Being overweight, improper diet, anxiety and stress, sudden increase in exercise and improper posture can add to the pain.
Mild antiinflammatory drugs like ibuprofen or Motrin taken thrice a day after meals and hot fomentation will help you.
In case the pain is severe and is not relived with over the counter medicines and a hot compress then it is best to consult an ER to get stronger prescription medicines prescribed.
I hope this answers your query.
