Question: I have been diagnosed with migraines. have been taking amitriptyline for 4 weeks, worked up to 30 mg, but it started making my arms and chest tingle and feel numb. my dr lowerwd my dose to 10 mg, but I felt worse. he then prescribed 30 mg cymbalta, which made my heart race and feel jittery, so for the past 2 days I have not taken anything. I am wondering if I should at least try to take 5 mg of amitriptyline, as I am still getting tingles in my chest and arms. a little concerned about just stopping meds

Brief Answer:
Wait one week

Detailed Answer:
Dear
I am sorry for the symptoms you are suffering

I can be more helpful if you describe me a headache attack. Anyway I understand your concern and your doctor has prescribed the best possible treatment for migraine attacks (amitriptyline) as a preventive

Migraine has two ways of treatment. First preventive medication and second attack treatment.

In my opinion you should still try amitriptyline but not now. You should wait one week more then start with 5 mg and increase the dosage by 5 mg each week till 15 mg once a day

In the meantime you should start pain killers to avoid headache such as ibuprofen (not more than 800 mg a day). Tingling and numbness you are suffering maybe related to anxiety disorder so you have to avoid chocolates, caffeine and energy drinks.

It is recommended that you start for 10-14 days an anxiety treatment (alprazolam 0.25 once daily, at evening)

I hope I have answered all you questions and clarified all your doubts.
