Suggest Treatment For Migraine With Numbness And Tingling Sensation In The Face

Question: 32 male. Hi. I have bilateral facial numbness and tingling that can last days at a time . I have had this for years. I also get dizzy spells. All imaging tests negative. My doc thinks I have vestibular migraine and the facial numbness maybe comes with that. However I cannot find anyone else who gets this facial numbness that can last DAYS at a time and is there most of the month . I really don't get much of a headache, but have a previous history of headache . Any ideas? Can migraine really do this? There was a suspicion that I have Lyme disease, however CDC tests were negative. A specialty Lyme lab test came back positive for exposure . Reg doc thinks no Lyme. Lyme doc thinks Lyme is a possibility and wants me to take amoxocyllin 4000mg for 30 days. ?????

Brief Answer:
Migraines are possible.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for using HCM.

I have read your question and understand your concerns.

Migraines may cause transient vascula changes within the brain that can result in transient symptoms such numbness and tingling.

Most common neurological symptoms of Lyme disease are headaches, sleep, mood and memory disturbances.

Affected nerves around the facial area may also cause numbness, dizziness, double vision, or hearing changes.

So, if there are present symptoms mentioned above, besides general symptoms of Lyme related to joints involvement, Lyme disease is a possibility clinically speaking, but only face numbness alone cannot indicate Lyme.

In my opinion, migraines remain a strong possibility, because of the transient nature of symptoms.

I would think about multiple sclerosis as well, but, imaging studies didn't support this possibility.

Please get an opinion by a Neurologist by examining you.

Hope you found the answer helpful.

Kind regards.

My symptoms currently are bilateral intermittent facial numbness and tingling, mostly concentrated near the cheeks to ear areas, dizziness (not true vertigo), tittiunuis, occasional headache, lightheaded brain for feeling, tiredness, and anxiety that comes from that. A couple times a month I will have days where I am not dizzy and there is hardly any numbness, feel close to normal.
With clear mris MS is out according to my doctors.
I guess I could try a month of antibiotics to see if it helped in the case I had Lyme, although not sure that's the answer .

I have tried verapamil for possible migraines, no help. Have tired occasional klonopin for dizziness ( .25mg) doesn't seem to help much.

The facial tingling is more annoying and bothersome than the dizziness.

I refuse to try topomax. I do use chewing tobacco and maybe quitting that could help also, not sure .

With this additional information, any other ideas?

Any suggestions on medications I could mention to my doctor?

I also forgot to mention that about once a month i get a itchy/pins/needles sensation all over my body, mostly my lower legs, thighs, groin area and radom parts of upper body, like my forearms. . These attacks last about a day or two. Very annoying. Does that point towards anything?

thank you

Brief Answer:
Periodic peripheral nerves dysfunction.

Detailed Answer:
Hello again.

These symptoms that occur periodically indicate peripheral nerves dysfunction, but not a specific condition.

Given to periodic nature, I would think about periodic changes of hormones levels.

Low vitamin B 12 also may be a possibility.

Hope I helped you.

Kind regards.
