Suggest Treatment For Migraine Headache

default
Posted on Fri, 10 Jun 2016
Question: In the last 3 weeks I have had migraines, that occur a couple times during the day and every night after an hour when I go to sleep. I have had blood work and no signs of any health issues. Went to my ENT Dr. And diagnosis was cluster migraine. I am now taking sumatriptan. I had migraines 30 years ago and I believe just went away. My question, with the change of season could it be related to allergies, which I haven't had any issues with. These migraines are so painful on my right side and last for 20-30 minutes and go into my right eye... Anything that you could suggest that would eliminate these migraines?

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I have gone through your question and understand your concerns.
Please describe more about headache.
Location unilateral or bilateral?
Intensity?
Associated with nausea or vomiting, sensitivity to light or sound?
Character throbbing, Bursting or piercing?
Stress or sleep disturbances?
Any redness of eyes, lacrimation or nasal stuffiness?
Migraine headache are more common in winter season and aggravates in many with change in season. No relation to allergies.
If episodes are recurrent then prophylaxis should be taken like Flunarizine or amitryptiline or propranolol or Topiramate or divalproate.
Pain killers like Naproxen can be used for pain.
Rizatriptan or sumatriptan may be used for migraine attacks.
Prevention can be done by taking timely meals, avoiding chocolates, excessive coffee. Take proper sleep.
