Question: I have mid back pain on the right with some swelling that has gotten worse over the last month
My massage therapist said i should get it checked a month ago. Today i had a massage and she said it is bigger. I have noticed an increase of discomfort more in last 2 wks

It doesnt feel like a muscle it feels deeper, like under my ribs. Could it be something with the gall bladder or some other organ?

Brief Answer:
Back Pain

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for contacting HCM with your health care concerns

I am sorry to hear that you are having back pain and swelling in your right side. This is usually due to severe muscle spasms of the paraspinal muscles. The therapist can continue to work on it but you may need to see your medical provider for additional help with medication. You may need a strong muscle relaxer medication to help reduce the spasms. I would continue the ibuprofen and icing as often as possible.

Your symptoms do not suggest any herniated disk or other deep pathology in your back.

Brief Answer:
Gall bladder

Detailed Answer:
If the area of swelling and pain are in the back then it is unlikely gall bladder as gall bladder is in the front just below the liver and ribs. The only thing in the back is muscle and there are deep muscles called the psoas muscle which can cause pain. The only real organ in the back are the kidneys and they are hidden beneath the ribs and would not show any signs of swelling because they are protected by the ribs and a deep layer of fat.
