Suggest Treatment For Lump On Neck Above Collarbone

Posted on Sat, 20 Dec 2014
Question: I found a lump on the right side of my neck above my collarbone yesterday. I'm extremely anxious because everything I have read seems to point to cancer because of it being on right side above collar bone. It is not moveable and there are no red rashes... Any thoughts

Brief Answer:
It could be Lipoma or Lymph node swelling.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
All the swellings above right collar bone are not cancerous.
In my Seventeen years of experience, I have seen many cases of non cancerous swellings above right collar bone.
As per your description, it looks like a Lipoma or Lymph node swelling.
Lipoma will be soft, where as Lymph node will be firm to hard in consistency.
Simple investigation like FNAC ( FINE Needle aspiration Cytology ) will confirm the diagnosis. If at all it is a lymph node, the cause of its enlargement will be known by FNAC.
Please consult your doctor and get examined clinically. If he has any doubt about the diagnosis, he can ask for FNAC.
Hope I answered your query.
If you have any questions, I will clarify further.
Wish you good health.
Regards
