Question: I have a small lump on each ankle on top of my feet. The lumps are have the same skin tone as the rest of my feet. They are totally painless. They are situated on top of the tendons (?) that run up my legs. Can you tell me what they might be?

Brief Answer:
Its Lipoma

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Greetings from Dr Divakara P.
Thanks for posting your query.

It seems like collection of fat tissue called Lipoma.

Lipoma is a harmless swelling that doesn't cause any harm. But it may grow in size and if it reaches a significant size then there is high risk of trauma to the swelling.

The other possibility is a sebeceous cyst which is an enlarged obstructed oil gland . But this swelling will be having a black or brown spot over the swelling.

I need to know more about the swelling to be more precise in diagnosis.

1. Since how long the swelling is there ?
2. Is there any skin color changes over the swelling?

Kindly let me know these details.

Regards.

Hi!

The swelling has been on my left ankle for about 3 - 4 years. The right ankle swelling is more recent.

The lumps are a bit whitish as if they are getting no blood supply.

I saw an image online which looks just like my lumps. It was referred to as a "runner's lump."

Thanks!

Brief Answer:
Doesn't seem to be Runner's Lump.

Detailed Answer:
HI

Thanks for the follow up .

I went through your Pictures , the whitish discoloration is due to skin dryness and not due to the underlying swelling or reduced blood flow.

Regarding the nature of swelling , I still feel it could be a Lipoma. Runner's lump commonly occurs on the back side of the foot.

For definite confirmation you can get a test called FNAC where a small needle will be inserted into the lump and a small piece of it will be aspirated and examined.

But since it's been there for 3-4 years , there is no need to do anything for this.

Any clarifications feel free to ask .

Regards.
