Suggest Treatment For Lump Below Shoulder Blade

default
Posted on Mon, 19 Jan 2015
Question: I just discovered an egg sized lump below my left shoulder blade. It is soft to the touch and does not hurt. However I've had severe pain in the opposite shoulder that is relieved by ice. Could they be related?

Brief Answer:
I think it is not related.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, welcome to HCM forum.
Thanks for posting to us.

A soft, round-oval, freely XXXXXXX swelling beneath the skin that doesn't hurt indicate a benign soft tissue tumor like lipoma or sebaceous cyst.
This can be confirmed by a local examination. Such swellings usually need treatment only if symptomatic or for cosmetic purpose. Your doctor will guide in this.
Anyhow this cannot cause pain in opposite shoulder.

Let me know when did the pain start, does it limits range of motion of the joint, and whether there was any precipitating events like fall or trauma.
If no antecedent trauma or fall, initially we can try simple analgesics like ibuprofen for about 5 days. If pain is persisting, we will need evaluation by an orthopedician. Meanwhile continue cold compression.

Hope this answer will help.
Kindly get back with details for further assistance.
Wishing you good health.
Thank you.
