Posted on Wed, 10 Feb 2016
Question: My husband has chronic pancreatitis. Over the past month he has had loss of appetite, pain radiating from his back to his stomach, and now has not had a bowel movement in 6 days. He is diabetic and his readings have been lower than normal for the past two weeks so he has lowered the amount of insulin that he has been taking. His Libido had also been very much affected. He has a appointment with his gastro Dr on Feb 1st . We are afraid he may have pancreatic Cancer..Should He go to the emergency room since he cannot get in to see his Dr. before then.

Brief Answer:
He should be taken to ER.

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query.
To recapitulate: Male/54 - chronic pancreatitis - loss of appetite, pain from back to stomach for one month - no BM 6 days - reduced insulin due to lower suar levels - libido affected - appointment with Gastro on Feb 1st - worried about cancer - should he go to ER
Yes, please take him to ER as he needs saline-soap enema to evacuate the bowel, to have clinical evaluation and tests to see his blood glucose, re-adjust the doses of Insulin, CT scan to confirm that there is no cancer.
This will also help to get a proper pain relief medications and other supportive treatment as per the necessity.

I hope this answer helps you and your husband, please feel free to ask for further relevant queries if you feel that there is a gap of communication.
