Posted on Tue, 9 Sep 2014
Question: Hello Doctor, my daughter (2 years 8 months) has lost appetite for last 3 weeks - especially lunch time. There is not much reduction in playfulness though. Being in Germany, English speaking doctors is a big problem. Would it be possible to recommend a generic drug/ syrup to improve appetite (if there is something like it). We have given her 6 monthly dose for stomach worms ("bandy") in Jun-14. The weight has reduced by 500 gm over lst 3 weeks.

Brief Answer:
Periactin (Cyproheptadine)

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for the query.
It is not normal to refuse feed by growing child.
There are some possibilities to rule out like stomach bug or virus, A child who is constipated may stop eating and may be unable to explain why, psychological aversion to food, food allergy or sensitivity like celiac disease.

If the child is taking too much milk and bread, biscuits , that may also cause the loss of apettite.

Kindly tell me is there any history of fever, loose motions, vomiting in recent past.

You can try Periactin (Cyproheptadine), which you can get online in germany.
Dose depends on weight.
Hope i helped you.
