Question: How do I restore my tastebuds? I used a 3% peroxide to cure a sore throat and left it in my mouth too long. As a result the top inside of my lip has a slight rash. I feel that this is the problem. My throat is still sore and has been for about three weeks.

Brief Answer:
Do not worry, this is temporary.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for your query.

1. The slight rash and alteration in taste due to the use of 3% peroxide will be due to irritation of the lining of the tongue and inflammation of the taste buds.

2. This will be temporary and should heal in a few days time.

3. Discontinue any further use of the peroxide. Get your throat examined by an ENT Specialist.

4. Since the throat has been sore for three weeks, a throat swab followed by a course of antibiotics, anti-allergic, anti-inflammatory medication and a mild OTC antiseptic oral rinse (such as dilute Betadine or Chlorhexidine) will help speed up recovery.

I hope that I have answered your query. If you have any more questions I will be available to answer them.

Regards.
