Suggest Treatment For Loose Stools While Having Emphysema

Question: My father is 84? and has emphysema. He does okay generally but within the the couple of weeks he has had runny stool,very loose. He wants to take Oct diarrhea medicine. What could be causing his loose stool?

I can understand your concern

According to the history you explain this might be a gastroenteritis due to viral causes.
It usually is associated with losing stool abdominal pain or sometimes with fever.

He can take safely medications for diarrhea,supplements with electrolytes and a lot of water instead.

It passes after some days, don't worry.

If the situation gets worse get the medical help for intravenous perfusions,but i don't think he will need.
