default
Posted on Thu, 16 Jun 2016
Question: I had a small red mark in the back of my throat. After several days it developed a white head. Now, days later it looks black or as thought it has developed a scab. Any ideas? It scares me.

Brief Answer:
Probably injury

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for your query today
I'm Dr. Shuba Hariprasad and will be answering your query today.

Your description of the lesion sounds like an injury to that area of the throat. In this case, it should slowly resolve in another 10-14 days.

Do you smoke?
Do you have any other health issues? (past/current)
Any medications?
Any family history of cancer?
Does your throat/lesion hurt? Any other symptoms?

I would recommend that you keep an eye on it for the next couple of weeks. If it does not resolve in 2 weeks or grows bigger, becomes painful, see your dentist/Physician to rule out other pathology (infection /tumor).
You may need to have a small portion of the lesion tested to confirm diagnosis.

Avoid too hot or too cold drinks/foods.

Hope this helps.
Please let me know of there is anything else I can help you with.
If not, please close this discussion and rate my answer.

Wish you good health.
Regards,
Dr. Shuba Hariprasad
