Posted on Mon, 10 Aug 2015
Question: HI there,

I have a large rash on each side of my inner thighs and I am 6 weeks pregnant. It started small like a purplish itchy bump on each side about three days ago. It is also oozing a clearish liquid. Rash is ONLY on inner thighs. No other symptoms seem to be occurring.

Brief Answer:
Change antibiotic after swab culture.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
The oozing of clear liquid from the rash is suggestive of an infection in the area. At 6 weeks gestation, taking oral steroids for the rash are not usually recommended. If the rash is spreading then it is best to get a swab culture of the rash done and start with the appropriate antibiotic.
You can increase the frequency of topical steroid cream to 3-4 times a day. Be careful not to apply more than a pea size ointment on each buttock each time.
There is a topical antibiotic cream which might also provide benefits. This is referred to as mupirocin. This is a very good topical antibiotic that can be safely used.
* Avoid scrubbing your skin.
* Use as little soap as possible. Use gentle cleansers instead.
* Use warm (not hot) water for cleaning. XXXXXXX dry, don't rub.
Please feel free to discuss further. I will be glad to answer the follow up queries that you have.
Wishing you good health.
