Question: I was diagnosed three years ago of having an inner ear imbalance....Was not vertigo, nor crystals, not fluid....was told a part of the brain sends signals to inner ear....My left ear does not receive constant signals, and the right ear does. I can stand, but insecure when walking. Also, I sleep hours at a time....I have type2 diabetes, two strokes, and a heart attack....Stint in place. Take prescribed meds. Is there something current to treat me?

Brief Answer:
Vestibular rehabilitation therapy...

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

From what you described it seems like you suffer from labyrinthitis that did not resolve completely. Generally there are various compensatory mechanisms that develop spontaneously following labyrinthine disorder. But in few patients those mechanism are insufficient and patients are left behind with residual symptoms. You seem to be one among them.

As per my updates there are no latest developments in treating residual symptoms of imbalance from previous labyrinthitis disorder. I took curbside consultation from few of my ENT friends and they are also not aware of new technologies that is proven as effective. The current or the latest treatment for such cases is vestibular rehabilitation therapy. And as your symptoms are marginal gait disturbances, I feel the physiatrist will be able to help you regain normal gait gradually through exercises and therapy.

You should consult physiotherapy experts and discuss about it.

Hope this information suffices. Let me know if you need clarifications.

Brief Answer:
Sure....

Detailed Answer:
I look forward to discuss with you again after the ENT consult. Discuss about vestibular rehabilitation therapy and gait training exercise with him/her. The doctor may refer you to a physiatrist for the same.

Labyrinthine disorders and dealt by neurotologist who are basically ENT doctors trained for vertigo and inner ear problems. It's their piece of cake.

Hope you find it helpful.
