Suggest Treatment For Kidney Stones

Question: Recently you answered a question regarding possible treatment options for my kidney proble. You suggested perutaneous nephrolithotorny and perutaneous nephroliithotripsy. Thank you very much for this info. I have had this tibe in the back of my kidney now for four months because I have not been able to find a doctor who is only willing to cut out my kidney. They have used the rational that the renogram or these nuclear scans indicate poor functionlaity of the left kidney. My right kidney already has stones.

How much importance and reliability should be given to these tests in assessing damage or functionality to the kidney where there is a large staghorn stone, such as like I have, which is obsrtuctung and thereby inhibiting the natural flow of blood and urine throughout the left kidney. Even with a nephrostomy tube which is plastic.?

I am in Arkansas and in a rural area and need to find a doctor who is willing to help me without cutting out my kidney. What do you advise because I am running out of time.

Brief Answer:
Go for the procedures with less damages first.

Detailed Answer:
Welcome back and thanks for asking me directly.

I have read your question and understand your concerns.

Of course that the tests used to assess your kidneys function rate have their importance in deciding what treatment is more suitable.

In the other hand, it is my opinion ( and a basic principle in medicine ) that treatment ways that cause less damages to the patient should be tried first.

I think, percutaneous nephrolithotomy and nephrolithotripsy should be tried first in order to give the chance the kidney to improve its functionality.

Hope you found the answer helpful.

Let me know if I can assist you further.

Greetings.
