Brief Answer:
Steroids in tapering dose is more helpful.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Welcome and thanks for posting your query to the forum.

I can understand your concern for the rash of poison ivy along with other problems.

In my patients with your kind of problem I prefer to give a tapering dose of steroids.

I generally start with two injections on first day then reduced to 1 on next two days. If there is presence of any rah or new lesions along with any systemic complaints then I continue with same dose for the time till there is any new eruption. If there are no eruptions then I taper the dose to half in two days and then to one fourth in next few days before complete stopping.

A single dose or shot of steroid is sometimes not sufficient to take care of complete symptoms.

So a proper tapering dose is necessary to take car of problem. Additionally proper hydration is also quite important to flush our body system and to remove the toxins from body.

I hope these informations will help you. I will be glad to answer any further queries.
