Suggest Treatment For Itchy Rashes On Buttocks

default
Posted on Mon, 28 Sep 2015
Question: Over the last week, an itchy rash started to resurface on my buttocks near the base of the spine. To be more specific, right at the top of my buttocks fold, in the center of the two. It is very itchy and is irritated easily. I tried washing it and once used hydrogen peroxide to clean it after. No effect. I applied some polysporin which helped a bit because it handled the itching somewhat. I believe the area is getting worse. I do have some photos of it that I could upload. What can I buy to relieve the itching?
Thanks

Brief Answer:
Possible fungal infection

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for using HCM,

I read very carefully your question as saw your photos.

It looks like a fungal infection. For that reason you need to avoid using polysporin, because it is an antibiotic and most probably that is why it is getting worse.

Instead, you need to use an anti-fungal cream, like ketoconazole 2%, econazole 1% or terbinafine 1%. Use them 1-2/day locally, for 2 weeks.

If worse or not better consider seeing a dermatologist, who may give a prescription with oral antifungal drugs, which are given in the case when the infected area is too big or is not getting better.

Hope this is helpful

Take care

I wanted to thank you for your time and efforts on my behalf. So, I made it worse by using Polysporin. That figures. The creams you suggested -- are these available over the counter? A pharmacist then should know what these are and can direct me on the best product.
Thanks again.

Yes, most probably can find the creams over the counter

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXX,
Thank you for asking a follow-up question.

Yes, you can find them over the counter in general. Ask for an antifungal cream, and give pharmacist the names above.

Let me know in few days how is that helping.
