Brief Answer:
compound mole with secondary infection

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Welcome and thanks for posting your query to the forum.

I can understand your concern for the mole on right shoulder blade.

I've analyzed the picture with diligence and after proper analysis let me reassure you that the mole appears as simple "compound mole" with secondary infection.

The only thing of concern is secondary infection due to which it is itchy as well as red and raised in appearance. Some of the times it is quite usual to find such things in moles and in all these cases I suggest to excise the mole at the earliest and go for histopathological examination of the same.

Do let me know if you scratched or pinched the area. Tell me the exact dimension of the mole - is it greater than a pencil tip.

Hope to hear soon from your side.

Hi Doctor,
Thank you so much for all your help. This mole is about the size of a pencil eraser. It is very dry and crusty. I have scratched it at times. That is how I knew it was there. You said I should have it removed...It is possible it could be cancerous or am I just worrying over nothing? How do you remove it? I am a RN and work a lot. Would it be painful afterwards?

Brief Answer:
Normal compound mole; Not at all cancerous.

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX

Welcoem to the forum and thanks for your swift follow up.

Let me again reassure you that the mole is not at all related to any cancerous condition or any melanoma or not even to any dysplastic mole.

The condition is simple compound mole with mild secondary infection and irritation. The reason for the irritation and pain is just because of scratching the area. It is quite usual to find pain and irritation after mild to moderate scratching or fiddling with area.

As it is around the size of pencil eraser so it is better to get it removed by the method of simple excision. It is a routine procedure and is not very painful. It can be done by any experienced dermatologist or a house surgeon in few minutes. There may be mild pain which can be relieved by pain killer tablets.

Over and above of all you should not be worried about it and I personally suggest you to not to be panicky about it. I further suggest you to not at all touch, pinch or pop the area.

I hope you must be relaxed to know all these suggestion. I will be glad to guide you any further.

With regards,
