Question: Both my earlobes have been itching the last two days and have been a little red. Today, they are beginning to turn dry looking and feel rough to touch. It is the same on both ears.

What could this be and how do i solve it?

Thanks for contacting HCM with your health care concerns

I agree with Dr. XXXXXXX that you more than likely have an allergic reaction to something. If you wear earrings then you could have developed an allergy to the metal in the earrings. You could also have developed an allergy to the detergent or fabric softener you use for your pillow. These are the most common places that allergies may occur. There are numerous other causes of allergy so to try an name them all would be too difficult. You will have to eliminate things to see what you react to.

For treatment you need a topical steroid cream. I recommend over the counter a hydrocortisone cream 0.1% that can help. Use it twice a day until the rash is resolved. You may contact your physician and get a stronger steroid cream like triamcinolone which would also benefit you.

In summary
1. allergic dermatitis to the ear lobes
2. use steroid cream twice daily till resolved
3. Avoid earrings
4. wash bed sheets and pillows in hypoallergenic detergent
5. Experiment to see what you maybe allergic to.

I hope I answered your question. Please contact HCM again with your health care questions and concerns
