Brief Answer:
Get a course of an antibiotic, metronidazole

Detailed Answer:
Hi.

The anus becomes itchy usually due to intestinal infection, the bacteria in contact with the anal skin causes mild infection and inflammation causing the itching. Occasionally pin worms can cause the itching but it is present only during the night.

The long sausage type of strand of stool can in fact be a well formed stool with mucus surround it as a protective covering to facilitate the passage of the stool. This is a natural process.

Please elucidate ( give more apt information) about '' This just came out of me with out any warnings what so ever''. Do you mean that you never expected this and happened to you for the first time.

In such a case I would advise the following:::
First of all send the stool for laboratory tests.
get a course of an antibiotic and metronidazole for 5 days with a prescription of a Doctor. If the problem is solved and do not recur and the stool tests do not show any positive finding you can just relax and have a ''wait and watch '' policy.

If the findings are positive, you get a proper treatment as per the report. Also insist for a colonoscopy and further investigations like CT scan of the abdomen for getting a further diagnosis and plan for the treatment.

I hope this answer helps you o get an idea and plan for investigations and treatment.
