Suggest Treatment For Increased Thickness Of Endometrium

Posted on Mon, 22 Dec 2014
Question: I am 41 year old. I have always had regular cycles. I go every 27 to 28 days and I have my period for 7 days . The latest I have ever been was 4 days late. I am now 15 days late and I had an ultrasound done that states the endometrium lining was 21 mm in thickness. I have had a negative pregnancy test with urine and at day 5 of being late a blood test with a negative as well. Could I have tested to soon with the blood? Both ovaries are normal in size with follicular cyst and no adnexal masses are seen. The uterus is prominent in size with multiple fibroids. Why else would i have a 21 mm thickness and no period? I was told that it could be implantation or my cycle getting ready to come. I have no sign of period coming. I did have bloating and cramping on the week that i was suppose to have the period.

Brief Answer:
age related delay of periods

Detailed Answer:
Hello, I understand your health concerns.
This delay of periods and increased thickness of endometrium is all due to perimenopausal transition.
It is common after 40 years and usually this pattern keeps on repeating for 6-9 months and eventually menopause occurs.
Just wait for periods as pregnancy is highly unlikely but in case you don't get them in 2 weeks then get a repeat evaluation done.
All the best.

Thanks for answering :) my concern is I am normal and regular and bleed for 7 days straight like clockwork. This is the first time ever to happen to me out of the blue. So at 41 no chance of pregnancy

Brief Answer:
no chance as bHCG is negative

Detailed Answer:
Very less chance especially when you had normal blood work and no evidence of rise of bHCG in blood which is a confirmatory test.
You will surely get your periods in coming weeks and that can be a very heavy period.
Wait for the period to come but in case you get a similar sequence of flow in next cycle also you need further evaluation.
In case you have any other query I will be glad to help
