Question: Hi Doctor,

I have been diagnosed with ITP recently & platelets seems to be decreasing once the medication is stopped. I dont want to be on steriods. On top i have put on weight & i want to reduce my weight

Treatment options for ITP are :

1. Spleenectomy : Surgical removal of Spleen.
2. IV Rho immunoglobulin (RhIG) : is an injection but very expensive.
3. Steriods.
4. Immunosuprressants : Suppresses body immunity and hence increases the risk of Infections.

If you don't want steroids you can choose the other options , better among this is Spleenectomy.

Do diet and exercise.

Weight loss requires both diet and Exercise .

Diet : Reduce the amount of calorie intake by 500kcal. That is if you are taking 2000kcal per day thyen make it 1500kcal . In simple terms it means reduce the quantity of food you eat per day.

Avoid Sweets , Carbonated beverages , Non Veg food , Junk Food , Cheese , Butter and Ghee.

Eat more of fruits, vegetables and drink plenty of water .

Exercise : Do aerobic exercises like Brisk walking , Jogging , Running , Cycling or Swimming at least 30 minutes every day .
