Brief Answer:
intertrigo with bacterial and fungal infections

Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Intertrigo is inflammation of the skin folds- under the arms, in the groin region in men, in women , under the breasts also may have this rash.
Intertrigo occurs as a result of heat, moisture and friction.

These inflamed areas can then become infected with either bacteria or fungi.

It is also possible to have both the bacterial and fungal infection.

Treatment: (1) keep the skin folds separate if possible, use cotton or linen material if possible to keep areas separate

(2)apply barrier creams such as petrolatum or desitin or other barrier creams to prevent further friction

The use of the barrier cream would also prevent the area from being irritated by urine.

(3)use antiseptic solutions to clean the area with the boils and apply anti bacterial creams to the areas , along with a few days of mild steroid cream such as hydrocortisone to reduce the inflammation

(4)along use an antifungal cream- eg are miconazole, ketoconazole, econazole to the skin areas as well

(5)to the areas between the toes- use an anti fungal powder such as miconazole (zeasorb or lotrimin)

I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions

Brief Answer:
darkening normally occurs as direct response to inflammation

Detailed Answer:
HI

Yes, you are correct, you did mention darkening of skin but did not mention in response to alcohol use at the time.

Darkening of the skin is the natural response to any inflammatory or trauma or infection.
It occurs as part of the body's inflammatory response to any of these events. In some cases, after the infection resolves or you might notice a long time after an injury to an area, the pigmentation may go back to the original state.

In terms of alcohol, use of a small amount of alcohol used only occasionally is not normally associated with hyperpigmentation (increased pigment of skin).

Excess use however, because it causes liver damage and is also associated with a deficiency in vitamin b12 , can be associated with this change. In these cases however, normally the change is seen in the hands, around the eyes, mouth and on the legs.

If there is excess use and pigmentation in these areas, then it is possible that it is related to alcohol.

If you only drink small amounts occasionally or the darkening is only in the infected areas, then it is not related to the alcohol but the infection itself.

Please feel free to ask any other questions
