Suggest Treatment For Hoarseness, Sore Throat And Mild Cough

default
Posted on Sat, 6 Aug 2016
Question: I have completely lost my voice. For 2 days now; I think it may be overuse or a virus or both. I'll have to cancel my work schedule tomorrow. I was backpacking and my friend and I got separated and that involved a lot of yelling. Also, being out was pretty physically demanding and woke each morning with a mild cough that went away after phlegm cleared. Any way to hasten return of voice?

Brief Answer:
Chymoral forte can be helpful.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
welcome to HCM,
I have read your query,

It is likely because of overuse of voice (yelling) as a result of which your vocal cords have become inflamed and edematous. So you had almost lost your voice. It may or may not be associated with viral infection.

The treatment is symptomatic mainly.

Antiinflammatory medications like ibuprofen can be taken 2 or 3 times daily.

Continue with antiseptic gargles two times daily and yes, voice rest will be helpful to reduce edema over vocal cords.

For faster recovery, a medication named chymoral forte can be prescribed with the help of your family doctor or PCP as it is a prescription based drug. It is helpful to reduce edema over vocal cords more quickly.

Warm salt water gargles would also be helpful.

Since it is likely because of overuse voice, there is almost no role of antibiotics here.

Generally,it may take 3 to 4 days for your voice to return completely provided that you have rested your voice fully. The more you speak, there will be more edema over vocal cords and your symptoms will last longer or it will take more time in recovery.

Hope this helps.

Regards,
